ParticipantSometimes the machine makes a banging noise, which sounds like the drum tank banging on the metal side panel. It only makes this noise when the drum is rotating fairly slowly before the spin for up to about 10 seconds, I assume when balancing the wet load. The spin is fine, quiet with little vibration. It doesn’t always make the banging noise but seems to do this with various loads from under half a load to a load of towels (I make sure not to overload it).
There is cheap laminate flooring (nasty stuff) under the machine but I have lifted it, removed the underlay and bonded it to the concrete floor below with ‘no more nails’. It hasn’t made any difference, but is solid now and leveled properly.
I have read about an anti-vibration kit or modification, am I correct in thinking that this kit is just rubber feet.
There doesn’t seem to be much damping weight on the drum like the large concrete block on my old one.
Is this just something I have to live with with a large (7kg) load machine, due to the small tank to case distance. I am concerned that it could it be causing damage. It is only a few months old so still under guarantee, but if I call out an engineer will they be able to do anything or would it be a chargeable no fault found.June 19, 2007 at 3:23 am #217553admin

Hi Andy
The LG machines have had vibration faults after the first production range. There are numerous modifications that LG advise the engineers to carry out, which are :
Change the front and top counterweight (the concrete blocks).
Change the feet.
Change the suspension legs.
Advise customer to put machine onto a concrete base.If our machine is on a old wooden floor or even a converted house then it will be more prone to vibration.
None that I have done has worked whole heartedly,The noise you are hearing is that of an unbalanced load.Try to put a smaller load in and mix large items with small items which will even out the load.
Bonding the feet to the floor wont help,In fact it may make it worse.
Personally it is a design fault but to get LG to admit it then thats a different story,Its been an on going battle for the past 5 plus years.

Thanks for the reply.
It only has a couple of small weights on the front, none on top. Are the replacement ones larger? Is that the usual problem (noises with an unbalanced load), or is it more usually excessive vibration during spin?
Are there still some problems with machines on a concrete base, or do they work fine?
The spin is fine and I don’t want to mess that up. Do you think it is worth getting it seen to whilst under guarantee still, and is it likely to cause damage if left?

I’ve bonded the laminate flooring to the concrete floor below (not the feet). I would have removed a section under the machine but don’t think my landlord would be too happy.

BryanDo you think it has insufficient damping, or because the suspension is attached to the plastic base?
