Participantmy local health club – hotel chain have debited my account for 2000.12 instead of my normal monthly fee of £54.00..
been on to bank to get it reversed and they have said could take up to 2 weeks – as they need to check with other bank to see if they’ve made a mistake ..but should only take a couple of days
my question is – was it illegal for health club to do this , and should i be back onto the bank 1st thing in morning screaming for my 2 grand back faster ..it is a dd direct debit and im sure they would have too write to me and ask if they can change amount before taking anything .. they have put a couple of more treadmills in and a new sauna – but im pretty sure the the new 2 grand fee is a bit excessive ..

Participantbank direct debit advice
Get back onto bank they should see the regular payment is £54 they should do a dd indemnity reversal.
As part of the dd guarantee should any money be taken in error the bank must on request immediately refund the customers account
If they try and stall them ask them to read out their direct debit guarantee to you.

Only the health club admin person can resolve your problem. No doubt able to explain how the error occurred and as to what the correct fee should have been. They then should be able to contact their bankers and instruct them to give you an immediate refund. 😀

I used to have insurance on my sky box which I paid by direct debit. I cancelled it when I got sky +, as the new box was guaranteed. This was a couple of years ago. The insurance company kept phoneing every couple of months wanting me to insure my box again, I always said no. Then suddenly the dd payment started again, So I when straight to my bank to complain about an unauthorised dd payment. The payment was refunded back to my account the same day.
So I would go to my bank and tell them to sort it out, and not be fobbed off by them saying the health club is responsible.
