I was told that F4 is a pumping error, but the dishwasher did not leave any water in the machine. I got rid of the F4 by randomly pressing a few buttons while switching on (hoping to activate a test mode)
Now, the pump runs for about 30 seconds, there’s a pause for several seconds and then a little red neon at the top left corner flashes “tap closed”
Customer says this light hasn’t flashed before!
The pump looks OK and isn’t blocked. There’s a good water supply to the machine, the inlet filter is not blocked, and the valve isn’t open circuit.
Has anyone any clues please?

If it’s in a hard/poor quality water area Andy check the diaghram switch, black thing on the side of the sump.
They get clogged with crud and give the PCB incorrect readings as far as water in/out goes.
Dave.

Hiya,
It’s a Whirlpool and from memory F6 means it’s not receiving water quick enough or it’s not getting the pulses from the flow meter, hence the reason it thinks the water tap is closed. If the water hose has the aquastop, try changing it for a normal hose. The other thing that used to bring this up is the pressure switch but you normally get water coming in before it throws up the error.
Hope the email helps.DP

I removed that Dave. It was clogged up and I was hopeful. I cleaned it out and tested but the problems remained 🙁

What is puzzling about this is that the “tap closed” warning is a little light on the control panel. I haven’t actually had “F6” – only the flashing light.
The thing is, not draining the water and not filling are two totally separate faults. I am suspecting the part that notifies the PCB about the water levels. Would that be the part Dave mentioned?

Hiya,
Yeah, that’s the pressure switch Andy.
Also, you won’t see F6 unless it’s in test mode. The customer would just see the wtc light in normal mode.
The procedure for test mode is at the bottom of the email I sent you.DP

It clicks up once and down once when I blow in it, but does it sound like it’s the culprit?

Hard to say Andy, the flow meter has to send 10 pulses a second and the pressure switch tells the module when a set amount of water (think it’s 2 litres IIRC) has entered the machine, module then works out the rate and continues to fill till it’s taken in the right amount of water. If it doesn’t get enough pulses or it takes too long to get the 2 litre indication it aborts.
Check the wiring / connections to the flow meter and module. If still not working it’s most likely the pressure switch.DP

Cheers. The thing is though that it never attempts to take any water in. It’s as though it is registering there’s water in constantly, which is why even when empty it gives error F4 – But it doesn’t try to wash on a wash part – it doesn’t attempt to fill it gives the opposite error – no water in.

Mind you there are 3 connections on the microswitch. Is it just an on off microswitch?

When it if first switched on it should run the pump and take in some water to flush out the sump. The pump then stops (as does the water intake) and it should then start to fill, if it’s not filling at all you need to check the inlet valve, it’s wiring back to the module and the water supply, If the supply is via and aquastop device, take that hose off and use a standard fill hose. Finally, if still not taking in water, mark up the connections on the module and open the module, see if any tracks are burned out.
