Participant4 weeks ago I replace a regulator on a Baumatic hob due to it sparking and tripping the electrics. When tested there was an insulation fault but no signs of arcing or overheating.
I have just received a recall for the same problem.
I have attached photos of what I have found and would appreciate your opinions as to what could have caused this.August 31, 2018 at 11:29 pm #457657electrofix

Commonly caused by a high resistance connection between amp connector and terminal or oxidisation where the cable is crimped to the terminal. As current is drawn heat is generated, further oxidising the connection. Looks like this may have started on the right of the attached picture.

Murv…When I replaced this 4 weeks ago had any of the terminals felt loose I would have tightened them before refitting.
If it had been loose I would expected the terminal you refer to, to have melted but this looks like the flash point to have been at the regulator shaft.
Having said that I see what you mean about the oxidisation on those terminals and not the others and where the casing has melted in that area.
because of the extent of the damage I had initially thought this could have been caused by a spillage into the regulator.September 1, 2018 at 10:19 am #457661electrofix

I was thinking spillage as its so completely destroyed. if it had been just one terminal I would not have expected such devastation
