    Hi,
My BDW 5 is failing part way through a wash. The bleeping noise starts and on opening the door to investigate I see the 4 status lights flashing, the 2 left lights on and 2 RH lights off and then vice versa i.e LH off & RH on.

After having a read through the forum (BTW is anyone keen to add a search facility to go through all the pages?) I checked the base of the machine opening the flap at the front. THere was some water collected there which was causing the polystyrene disk to float up & probably causing a switch to flick.

I drained out all the water and then ran a rinse and everything worked ok. Encouraged by this success, I ran a full wash and this went through fine as well.

Unfortunately the problem has re-occurred, although when checking, the machine starts to complain after about 40 mins into the wash (same symptoms as above) but there is not enough water collected to push up the disk.

So… any ideas what this light fault sequence indicates? Given symptoms, is there another leak detection switch in the machine being tripped? Where are the most likely places for the machine to leak – my guess it is something a bit away from the front of the machine but water starts to accumulate in front right corner.

    Any help appreciated.
    cheers

This is a Fagor-Brandt built appliance. There is no reference to a code error bringing up the lights in that pattern, so you can probably assume that the electronics are stuffed. Ain’t logical.

The site search engine is extremely efficient. Click on “Search”.

    Re: Baumatic BDW 5

    OK, thanks for the tip.

With the help of this forum I have managed to fix a couple of other problems over the last 2-3 years, but after checking the price of the controller and considering there is also a leak somewhere to resolve, the baumatic is going out.

6 years use use does not seem so bad in some level, but in taking the machine out, it does feel disappointing that poor reliability causes such a big pieces of kit to end up in landfill. The sales person at John Lewis did not seem to think 6 years was so bad, about par for the course for a mid range dishwasher..

Long shot, but before the council gets the call, is there anything from this machine that would be of interest/use to anyone else?
    cheers,
    alfredo
