ParticipantHi, I bought the dishwasher about 6 years ago but it has just started malfunctioning. It fails part way through the cycle. When I open the door the indication on the symbols has an alternating pattern of the rinsing light (2nd on left) flashing and then the other 3 indicator lights flashing alternately.
The machine instructions imply this code could be the control unit or heating element failure. At least the last 2 times I looked the water in the machine was cold which might imply the heating element.
I note that spare heating elements are available for this machine but wonder
i) if I have made the right interpretation of the fault lights
ii) if the element is at fault how I might go about replacing this.
Advice appreciated.

Interesting. Your flashing lights don’t match with the rather limited tech info I’ve go access to, or what the user manual says. I think I’d be getting out the test meter and checking the resistance through the heater before considering buying spare parts.
Power off, first.

Hi,
ok i checked the resistance across the element whilst the electricity was off and it came out about 25 ohm. Suggests element is not the problem. The heater cables come off some switch which I take to be a thermostat of some sort as it is pushed against the underside of the dishwasher tray. the switch has 4 terminals, three terminals were exposed and one shielded by a back plastic sleeve.
Very carefully I measured the voltage applied to the element when the machine was set to wash and sure enough it never gets any significant voltage across it. Whereas on the unshielded terminal on the other side of the switch I could measure 250v.
It looks like this switch (thermostat?) is bust. Any ideas where I can get a replacement?

OK, so the death defying bit apart (Don’t do this, folks……), just take the test meter and check whether or not the thermostat is open or closed. The closed poles will give damn near zero resistance, open circuit will give an infinite one. Pull the plug and break the circuit to the thermostat to get an accurate reading. The thermostat should be normally closed; it is the cut-off to both live and neutral circuits.
If one side is open circuit, contact spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and ask for p/no V75A000E4. They’ll be able to source it for you quickly.

HI,
OK thanks for the tip.I measured the thermo switch with it disconnected. When cold, one side is closed circuit and the other side is open circuit. Interestingly dipping in near boiling water did not change the state of the closed side either. So it is bust.
The current part has serial no Z0123C02C1 and I can’t see anything with this id on the web so I guess a call to spares at whitegoods is in order.

HI,
After enquiring at ukwhitegoods, the thermostat part I needed for the BDW5 was in fact V75I000G2, made by Fagor but common for certain Candy and Baumatic machines as well. This was available from whitegoods here…
http://tinyurl.com/5m2fzhI fitted the part last night and indeed it has fixed the problem. So big thanks to penguin45 for the help & hints.
cheers
