ParticipantHi guys. I am looking for some advice please. My son lives in a rented flat that has a silver Baumatic fridge freezer BFC220SL. He has noticed that iced water is collecting and freezing at the bottom under the bottom freezer trays with occasional leakage of water on the floor at the front to the left hand side. I cannot see independant temperature controls for the 2 sections.Just the dial in the fridge compartment. Do I assume that this controls both sections ? His flat gets very hot.Would this affect anything? I can’t tell you how old the appliance is unfortunately. Can I have your opinion on what is wrong and whether he needs a refrigeration engineer to look at it? Thanks.

Sounds like the drain hole/channel for the melt water is blocked/frozen up. So when the appliance goes through a defrost cycle the water goes into the bottom of the freezer. First thing to do is defrost the freezer (turn off at supply and leave door open for at least 24hrs) then turn back on. If problem comes back within a week or so then you may have a fault and need an engineer.

Thank you Nige. I removed a large sheet of ice from the bottom of the freezer cabinet so will see if the problem comes back and take it from there. There is no build up of ice at all in the freezer cabinet itself. I presume cos it’s frost free.I will try the defrost option if needs be. Thanks for your prompt reply.

The ice build up will be on/under the evaporator there will be ice there you just cant see it. If you remove the rear cover inside the freezer you’ll se what i mean. Be careful if you use haet to defrost as the plastic can distort in no time. Best just to switch off. 😉
