ParticipantHi there,
This morning I switched the oven on to find it wasn’t heating up. nor was the grill. The timer and clock display are however functioning.
I’ve check the timer, using the guide on this site, and can confirm that the timer is set to manual and still no power to oven and grill.
I’ve opened up the oven perhaps the only thing I can see which may be the potential culprit fault is the red terminal on the temperature selector is charred a little, see picture:
[
however, the selector does make that functional-sounding click if I turn it.
I cannot seem to see any internal fuses, well nothing obviously pops out to me,so any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,

You need to replace the thermostat and rewire the lead.
Isolate the unit fully before conducting the repair.

Thanks for the quick reply Jackal.
The until is well and truly isolated, plug taken off to get the thing out of the unit.
Is there any way to testing the thermostat?
cheers,

Hello,
After tinkering a bit today, I tested the temperature control dial, I simply checked the continuity between the live and neutral and it appears to function ok i.e. there is continuity over the terminals when on.
I tested the continuity of what I think are the thermal overload cutout (TOC) thermostats, see photo below. And I discovered that one of these devices has no continuity across it.
I assume the TOC is at fault. Can anyone advise whether these things can stop working of their own accord, or if they stop working they’ve been triggered by a secondary fault?

Update:
I’ve now ruled out the thermostat I mentioned above as faulty. After removing it and bypassing it I discovered this thermostat controls the cooling fan, since the fan started up straight away when I powered up the cooker. This is logical in hindsight.I think the problem is the timer circuit board, possible the relay or what ever provides the 6vdc power to the relays coil. It’s difficult to check these components since access to the relays terminals is restricted by the digit display, also it’s covered with some sort of film which seems to insulated the terminals and makes continuity checking a problem.
As a temporary solution, I’ve bypassed the timer circuit and the over/grill heats up normally.
Now to try and find a new timer circuit board. Does anyone know where would be best to obtain one of these, or, a reconditioned one?
Thanks.March 25, 2014 at 9:03 am #411546Martin

We have yet to learn if you have actually replaced the thermostat and lead as Jackal advised?

Hi Martin,
Not yet, I want to source the both components together if possible. Having said that, the Thermostat will be replaced as priority, the scorching is a certain sign of trouble.
