bayonet gas connectors – different types?

Hi all, a newbie here….. so please excuse if this seems a stupid question!

My old gas cooker wasn’t working properly, i decided that i would replace it rather than get it repaired.

Anyway, i’ve bought a second hand cooker, a creda capri, and intend to get a gas engineer in to install it, etc. However, having just had a quick look, i notice that the bayonet connectors on the 2 cookers are different, and hence the ‘new’ cooker won’t fit directly to the existing gas pipe/connection.

The original fitting is a larger bayonet, with the locking ‘pins’ on the gas pipe side of the connection. The ‘new’ fitting is smaller, with the ‘pins’ on the hose side of the connection.

I’m confused….. is it a simple case of getting the engineer to swap the hoses, and that’s that?!

Any help much appreciated. 🙂

Yes, a new hose must be fitted legally when installing any gas cooker (especially second hand) and will be carried by any competent engineer, you will also need to provide the user/installation instructions otherwise the Corgi installer will be unable to install under current legislation.

You/he/she can download them from most manufacturers sites.

are you saying that i shouldn’t be surprised that there is a different type of connector fitted to the cooker? If there is more than one type/size of connector, then that’s fine, i’ll just get it changed when the engineer comes to do the install. 🙂

From memory, there are actually three different connector set ups. A qualified gas engineer will know immediatley which is the appropriate connector to suit your new appliance. Do follw Dave’s advice and see if you can track down an appropriate manual. Capri is a generic BTW, you will need to find the model number on the rating plate.

I have a creda capri. I have a large bayonet hose so I imagine the hoses are interchangeable in to say as much – for the correct gas ie natural or LPG and to current British Standard. Corgi guy will sort all that for you 😉 .
