ParticipantIt’s funny how yesterday just as I was reading one of the recent posts about a red stain, which turned out to be a black stain etc. I got a call about a black stain, anyway It’s very obviously a bearings, the thing is at the risk of sounding foolish, I only recently started doing bearings and I have not come across any Top Loading bearings. Nor do I recall learning about it in my course or experiencing it in my original on the job training. I guess it is because this type goes so infrequently (since there are two evenly supported)
So now I have this Top loading AEG Electrolux Lavamat 5.5 kilo (L45100 – model number seems to be only a local one here in Israel?)
The bearing on the side of the belt seems fine, the others must have been making a racket for quite some time it looks as if it completely broke apart.
What I’m wondering is how to access it all, do I need to remove the whole drum and all the works as on a regular front loader? It seems there is a simple plastic thing right around the bearing which turns and then there is at least partial access.
Any help would be most appreciated 🙂
Cheers,
Ben

Thanks Martin, very helpful, only thing is no matter what I tried I could not get that damn bearing off. (Yes I know some are counter clockwise) There seems to be a removal tool that I presume sticks into those holes. Any info, part number on this or other ideas to get it off. Thanks again 🙂

Only 130 pounds…
My feeling is If I buy the took it won’t even get many uses as bearings rarely go on these machines.
I think I may try inventing my own lever type device..
Thanks guys.May 15, 2012 at 8:07 pm #374621btkatzman

Success
FYI – A long 8″ plyer did not work, but I used a metal rod, made holes with self tapping screws so I could use it as a lever, it only took a small number of bangs with a hammer till I go the old bearing out.
Thanks again for all your help, much appreciated!
