ParticipantI have a great beer fridge which I want to get working again. The compressor runs with a gentle, healthy sounding vibration but the pipes are not getting cold and I suspect it has lost most or all of its gas in the several years since it was last used.
The fridge was made by a company in Malaysia and has a L’Unite Hermetique AZ1335Y compressor. Apart from the inlet and outlet pipes, there is a short pipe with a screw valve which is presumably for re-charging. I found one company that services commercial fridge units using L’Unite compressors but their minimum call charge was £100 + VAT, even if I bought the fridge to them 🙁
Any pointers greatfully received.
As I don’t have a recognisable manufacturers name I can’t use the Repairs@ facility. My Postcode is GU6 7DW (Cranleigh, Surrey)
Regards and seasons greetings,
Nick

Morning,
Sounds as though most of the work required is straight forward, as you have said there is already a charging valve in place.
However these days engineers have to comply with all sorts of rules and regulations in order to stay legal and comply with the complex disposal laws regarding refrigeration gases.
I think £100.00 is near enough the mark to investigate and possibly regas your fridge.
Try using any of the larger manufacturers names in the Repairs@ module and ask the appropriate agent if they do system fridge work. As an example try Electrolux or Hotpoint, we as system repairers are more interested in the type of gas (r134a, r12 etc) than the manufacturer of the compressor.
Happy New Year (even with warm beer)

Hi Kevin,
Many thanks for the quick reply. Other markings on the compressor are “97M01 115634 R134a” and “20214911” so that means the gas is type r134a. Does that help determine whether an Electrolux or a Hotpoint repairer would be the best place to start?
Cheers,
Nick

Hello,
yes,
R134a is a common gas and any system guy will be able to handle that. All manufacturers have at some time used R134a, you should be able to get help easily.

If you can find a local repairer that does fridge work try them before the manufacturers I think you will find them to be much cheaper and faster to respond to your needs. Repairs @ is a good starting point as you have not indicated what part of the country you are located.
