Beko 5422x – Overheating

Hi, I wonder if you guys are able to offer me any help.

My mother-in-law has a Beko 5422X.

The problem she has is that when the main oven reaches the required temperature it does not turn off, but just keeps getting hotter. The LED which normally goes off when the required temperature is reached, just stays on all the time.

I had thought this was a problem with the thermostat, so I have fitted a new one. However, the problem remains. On both the old and new thermostat, you can hear a click when the dial is turned past the oven temperature, but it just doesn’t turn off the heating element in the oven and the LED stays on.

Does anyone have any ideas what else could be causing this? Could it be the brown selector that the thermostat clips on to? I’ve seen a part called a thermal cut out. Could it be that?

The thermostat operates by cutting the power… if the thermostat is new and working then the only think possible is that you have the cooker wiring incorrect

It’s about 5 years old and has been working fine.
Given it was working fine it seems unlikely to me that it would be a problem with the wiring.
When I fitted the new thermostat it just did the same as the old one. There is a definite click when the dial is turned past the oven temp, the LED gives a little flicker and I could also see a little flash inside the thermostat unit, but the oven just stays on.
If the thermostat unit was faulty would you expect to hear the click when the dial was turned past the temp of the oven?
Could I have been supplied with a faulty thermostat?

You may have an insulation fault which has blown the new stat.

Take the thermostat out and test it with some heat and a multimeter.. the thermostat is only really a resetting cut-out which uses a phial and if it is working properly it will cut the power to the element, either neutral or live, and in that case the element cannot work unless you have a wiring fault/short
