We have an American style (side by side) fridge freezer Beko GNEV320APS.

The fridge and freezer stopped cooling and no longer works. Once the entire thing had “defrosted” there was no evidence of water so it doesn’t appear to be that there is any issue with the auto defrost.

On closer inspection after removing the back panel and seeing what happens when the fridge freezer is turned on at mains: the compressor clicks on, and runs for 2 seconds before clicking off. It remains off for 2 minutes then clicks on again. Clicks off again after 2 seconds and so the cycle repeats.

We have tried inserting a new start relay, and also a new relay overload and it does not fix the problem or alter the cycle as described.

Does anyone have any other ideas as to what we can investigate to potentially fix this issue please? Thank you.

Hello, in the vast majority of cases, the condition of the starting device is a direct indication of the condition of the compressor. Very very occasionally, you can change the starting device and fix the issue.
It seems that you have a faulty compressor, but this itself could be a symptom rather than the root cause of your problem. The faulty compressor could be because you have a leak on the system, allowing the refrigerant to escape and causing the compressor to run unchecked.
You’d need to be investigating this possible scenario, before thinking about changing the compressor to be honest.
