    Hi All,
Having searched these forums, I seem to be having the opposite problem to other posters. The fridge appears to be working fine but the food in the freezer has thawed.

The fridge has power and the fan in the freezer still and the compressor can be heard to run periodically but the food in the freezer has defrosted so had to be binned.

Turned it off and on to try a reset. Emptied freezer and put water in the ice tray. It has frozen but took around 3 hours to freeze it. The ice cubes have remained frozen all day but not sure the temp is much below zero.

Fridge is 5 and a half years old.

The fridge has always been set to position 1 (very close to MIN) on the thermostat dial as anything higher than this has always froze stuff in the fridge. This seemed a bit odd but just assumed this was normal for this fridge. Now set to 4, which is around mid-range

Need to get a thermometer but anyone any ideas on what would cause a sudden defrost of the freezer or the need to suddenly have a colder thermostat setting? I know there are no thermostats to replace anymore. PCB needs changing ?

    Thank you for any assistance.

this type of freezer relies on cold air circulating with a fan. if the unit is iced up it can restrict the freezing process.
my first try is a complete defrost before you condemn anything else

switch off, open freezer door for 2 days, then try again

    Thanks Dave,
Understand there is no separate coming for freezer anymore.
The freezer does not appear to have any ice in it and the fan looks clear and clean and I can feel a good flow of air when it is running. The odd thing was that the freezer had decided not to run even though it was to warm. Do you mean ice elsewhere like in a sensor?

no you said the fridge was working and since the fridge gets its cold from the freezer it was a possibility that ice may have been stopping the air flow. if the freezer is the same temp as the fridge then its possible to be a sensor or board fault. I am assuming the compressor is ok as you said the fridge was working and i am assuming in this weather with a compressor fault it would be a lot warmer

how long does the compressor run for ?

Re: Beko CDA543FS-2 freezer temp problem but fridge working

    Hi Dave,
Thanks for your response. I’m a bit confused. If the fridge gets its cold from the freezer and there was an air flow problem, wouldn’t that cause the freezer to work but not the fridge ?
Yes the compressor and fan are running fine.
I have put a thermometer in the freezer for 12 hours now and the temp is dropping to around -16C, the compressor runs and takes it down to -18.4C then compressor shuts off, so seems pretty normal now.
I haven’t fixed anything though so am concerned that if I stock the freezer back up again, it could happen again and ruin a load more food.
The odd thing was that even though all the food from the freezer had begun defrosting (so temp obviously too high), the compressor was not running. I tried turning the fridge off/on and the compressor started but then shut off after around 10 secs. So something was wrong. It now seems to be fine again but I suspect the problem is still lurking.

The freezer has no ice in it and the fan looks clean and clear. Is it still worth doing the 2-day defrost thing if you can’t see any ice anywhere ?

Re: Beko CDA543FS-2 freezer temp problem but fridge working

    cant do any harm

yes normally the freezer keeps going if there was a blockage but its normal practice to do a defrost on these to eliminate ice before you do anything on FF of this type

what worries me is the 10 sec burst from the compressor. sounds like the compressor overload was cutting out but the overload would be doing its job so changing is wont necessarily cure it

    Thanks Dave,
Presume the overload is a thermal trip on the compressor. Maybe I should pull it out and see if the compressor needs a hoover – could be covered in dust as it is in the integral garage.
I had thought maybe it was the control board that was cutting the compressor out too early as it was faulty.
