ParticipantHi,
I was hoping someone could help me.
My Beko Fridge/Freezer has stopped working. It is only 3 years 3 months old. One day it started warming up, and making a loud ‘gaggling’ sound (its sounds a bit like boiling water bubbling). I have since emptied it and switched it off.
I have rang a few engineers but have received different ideas and quotes, ranging from £60 – £150.
I was hoping someone could give me an idea of what needs fixing / replacing, plus a rough estimate of cost.
Kind regards,
Rob

Participantits more than likely a duff compressor
£140 – £160 Wouldnt be unreasonable given the wrork involved
except of course, the cost of the replacement

Thanks for the advice, a compressor is what the engineers both said.
Would it also involve being re-gassed?
Kind regards,
Rob

Hi Rob,
Yes, you cannot replace a compressor without regassing the machine.

Rob,
i too have a Beko and recently the fridge seems to not get colder then 9degrees and thus food goes off and the red light keeps flashing. Mine makes gurgling sounds now and then…though the compressor doesnt ever seem to switch off.
Does this sound similar to your problems?
When you got a quote…did the engineers just quote over the phone or did they come and assess the unit? was the quote free? Where did you get the engineers contact details from?
many thnks

Hi,
Thanks for the info on the gassing of the F/F.
With mine, it started the guggling sound, and then started getting warmer and warmer. I then emptied it as the food was going off and the freezer food was defrosting, and turned it off.
The quotes were over the phone and were free. I found them in the Yellow Pages. One said it will require a valve added to it (£58, with labour £90+) so they could regas it, but didnt mention the Compressor. Another one said it was the Compressor which will need to be replaced (£130) and will need regassing (£30).
Does this sound about right?
Can you recommend anyone that is cheap and reliable?
Thanks,
Rob
