ParticipantOrdered a replacement for the CBB65A-2 capacitor (5uF) – (hopefully the faulty part..). The one listed by the eBay seller being a CBB60 (5uF) – the seller replied “I would have thought this type of cap would be for the fan motor rather than the compressor as the compressor is started by the relay on the side of the motor”.
The Fan works fine but the Compressor doesn’t ‘click-start’ – hence no freezing.
Is that correct? Is the Compressor (slightly warm when mains-connected) requiring a new Relay instead. The FF has been OK since 2007!May 16, 2024 at 8:40 pm #490342electrofix
Moderatorthere is a relay on the motor

if its not that will be a failed compressor

ParticipantMuch obliged for the pointer (it wasn’t previously suggested the Compressor could be KO’d).
The linked Relay looks somewhat different but apparently compatible
So, possibly, time for a new FF..May 17, 2024 at 10:41 pm #490344kwatt
KeymasterIf you get a click, buzz, no start then the odds are the compressor is fragged.
To try to put it as simply as possible, the click is the relay trying to start it, can’t start so you get the buzz and all too often the cycle repeats (so you get click, buzz, reset, click, buzz, reset..repeat ad infinitum) as it’s a dumb device in essence so will just keep trying even though it can’t kick in. That click to start will only stop when the pot fires up and runs.
There are two common fundamental reasons for that the compressor is OC/shorted or, it’s seized internally and either way the only cure is a replacement compressor, a new relay won’t do anything aside 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} confirm the compressor failure.

ParticipantThat’s very useful info.
No – absolutely no ‘click’ (or anything) from the Compressor/relay upon switch-on; it just gets slightly warm (stable temperature) with the Freezer-Fan spinning merrily.
So how would I wire that dissimilar relay?! I’d love to repair this instead of sending it to land-fill heaven…!May 18, 2024 at 7:19 am #490346kwatt
KeymasterThat’s just the mains in, the relay is behind that.

ParticipantOK – but I don’t understand!
(no noises as you suggested, anywhere, to indicate the (‘failed’) compressor is trying to operate- presumably implying a still-functioning Relay).
As the Relay in question appears totally ‘electrical dissimilar’ maybe it’s best to forget any repair.
Thanks for your time. -
