Bought this approx 2 yrs back and around 8 months old it failed and had to be regassed (I think, not home and the engineer left no paperwork)

Last week the freezer section appeared to defrost itself, we lost that weekends purchases but some prior stuff was ok to move. Left the unit on as the fridge section appears to still be working and by yesterday some lollies left in the freezer had re-iced.

I’ve read some freezers ice up on the thermostat and it causes the unit to constantly defrost, is this possible or is it likely to be the compressor failing?

On a side note consumer direct inform me I might have a claim under supply of goods (implied terms) act, has anyone had any success with this sort of claim?

And finally if it is a basket case are any of the sub £500 mfrs better than average or are they all just cheap tat? 🙂

    Cheers

If you take off the back panel of the freezer section you will see whether there is an ice build up or not.

If there is then a sensor fault is a possibility as is the defrost heater along with the defrost timer being a strong candidate as the culprit, if there’s no ice build up then you’re left with the defrost timer again or the compressor.

Unless you can prove the defect was there from day one, no hope.

Your assumption is correct, buy a Liebherr. 😉

Thanks for the advice, didn’t have a chance to fully look at it last night but I did notice inside the freezer compartment had a good coat of ice down the back wall. One thing I did think was the last couple of weeks I turned the temp up higher than usual, maybe I have pre-empted a fault. My plan is to turn it off for a whole day, let it defrost properly then try it again, clutching at straws I know!

Is there any easy way to test the defrost timer/heater, and do you know where it might be on my model?

    TIA
