Hi, just replaced the capacitor on this tumble dryer as it wasn’t working but now there is a strange smell when the dryer is running. It’s hard to describe but kind of an ammonia/chemical kind of smell. Any ideas?

Update -After taking the panels off and running the dryer to try and trace the smell. It seems to be coming through the metal vent at the bottom right of the machine, behind where the filter sits.

It appears that damp fluff is carried round the various passageways and separates out to form a “felt” layer which can dry out and build up to restrict airflow….it will also get re-dampened with each new drying-load. pull the filter at the bottom of the porthole-opening and shine a torch down…..iirc,there are ducts going off left and right….if there’s lint there, you need to do a full strip and clean! You can’t get in properly without dismantling and taking the motor/fan unit out. Is your smell akin to a wet, dirty dog?…..the condenser slides out and has 2 sets of passageways! one lot front-toback, the others ,side to side….a hosepipe will wash out the lint and fluff.
