ParticipantHi I went to a beko cooker and customer complained of no heat in oven so naturally I replaced the element which was open circuit but when I powered oven back on the hob worked but no lights came on for the oven or grill. So I took back off and top off and with power on tested at fan motor, element, thermostat and selector switch and all had 250 volts to them and someone had cut both of the thermal cut outs out and put a through connector on so I know these weren’t the problem. So any ideas as to possible causes? ad to

Have you checked the mains terminal box as this could cause this sort of problem. Have attached wiring diagram for this model

When I arrived I noticed it was wired up with 2.5mm t&e with evidence of burning and screws missing so I replaced the terminal box and fitted 6 mm t&e to make it safe but beko one was out of stock so I fitted the hotpoint equivalent as shown on connect distribution site. But as I said all parts had 240 volts at them this is what is confusing me

Have you got a Netural?
Don’t like the sound of

Yeah I am coming to that conclusion myself the previous owner cos cooker was second hand was wired up by a dodgy Russian dude and he also cut out the thermal fuses. I spent over an hour trying to find this fault.
I assume there is a neutral as I had 240 volts between live and neutral when tested at the various components, I just didn’t want to give up on the customer but it does all sound a bit dodgy even as I write this !!October 4, 2012 at 6:39 am #382353DrDill

How did you know it was a neutral? If a component has an earth path you will still get voltage reading as earth has same potential as neutral, so neutral could be fault
