Have got a Beko Cool54FDW in the garage – is about 8 years old now.

Went to get something out of it yesterday – fridge warm and all contents in freezer defrosted.

Light comes on in fridge and fan visible at back of freezer is turning but I can’t hear the compressor running. Neither compartments seem to be cooling.

Could it be the thermostat has died or is it more likely the compressor that’s given out?

The garage has been a tad warm over the last week – don’t know if that might be the problem.

    Any suggestions or advice appreciated.

Ok, will have to pull it out to do that. Have turned it off for the time being. But if I turn it back on and check a few hours later what will hot / cold compressor suggest?

if its hot that says the compressor is turned on and therefore it cant be a thermostat or sensor problem

in fact as you turn it on, do it when its quiet and see if you can hear the compressor buzz. If it does then chances are 10 secs or so later you will hear the click of the overload cut out going out. if yes then we know its a compressor fault. Some compressors are capacitor start so it may be that if not its scrap

OK – so have tried turning it back on – you hear the fan start up but no compressor noise that I could make out, then a ‘click’. I assume that click is the overload cut out and therefore it’s a dead compressor ?
