ParticipantHello all,
I’m trying to diagnose a fault on our Beko DFN6831. In short, a selected wash program will not always finish though shorter, cooler cycles are more likely to complete. The fault is always the same;
the display briefly goes blank, comes back on, the time skips back a minute – it’s as if the dishwasher is stuck and retrying a phase. It will stay stuck in that process and the machine has to be turned off. Sometimes it will complete the program if we leave the machine off for several hours before turning it on again – though that’s not guaranteed.
It’s possible it’s stuck between phases (rather than mid phase) and maybe before a drying phase – although I would not swear to that.
I would say that when it does complete a program, it is very very hot, steaming if you open the door (though this might be normal) though it has discoloured/’bleached’ plastic knife & fork handles.
I’m unable to bring up a functional/diagnostic test to help in any fault diagnosis (the hold start + program buttons when powering on only brings up settings for water hardness).
The machine itself is 6 years old, and we’ve been using hard, 3-in-1 tablets from day one. I’m going to try the machine on separate powder, rinse aid and salt but I’m not confident it’ll make much difference.
I’ve had the machine apart to clean pipes etc and look for obvious fault but all seems okay on that score. I have my notions of what a problem might be but I’m clueless in honesty and wouldn’t what to mention my ideas in the event that it might simply confuse the issue. Even if I end up taking it to a repair shop, I’d like to given them a better idea of the problem.
Does anyone know how to bring up the diagnostics so I can at least see any fault codes? Or have any suggestions as to what I can do to home in on the fault?
Any suggestions would be welcome.

As suspected, the change to separates (powder, rinse aid and salt) made no difference. ‘Eco’ program (50c) of 2hr 35 length stopped with 1hr 12 to go…. before the final rinse & dry cycles. A lot of steam when the door is opened.
Restarted after leaving overnight, it completed the program semi okay. I say “semi” because it ‘hiccuped’ with 55 minutes to go during the rinse cycle (according to the display panel). The screen blinked, reset to 56 minutes, blinked again… (repeat blink/redisplay sequence a few times….), then displayed 54 minutes and continued on.
Drying phase completed without problem or interruption. Opening the door, it’s not as hot as before now.
Is it possible that the wash cycle is overheating the unit and causing the control board to malfunction???

Same problem on shorter, cooler program (“delicates”). Right after cleaning cycle, before rinse cycle. Put the program on ‘pause’ for a few hours then restarted it and it completed happily.
Anybody any ideas?

Many thanks for all the comments and suggestions so far 😉
Anyways, it looks like (touch wood) the problem has resolved itself. After limping through a few washes, it now seems to complete a full program without stopping.
My guess – and it is only a guess – is that something called the pressure switch was the cause. (I think that was the name – I found some info on this site or perhaps elsewhere that suggested to me that this switch/valve thing could be malfunctioning). It has capillary tubes to it and I reckon they might have gotten gunked up – or partially – by the all-in-1 tablets. We’d changed brand of tablet recently so perhaps it was, more precisely, that particular brand. I reckon the change to separate salt, rinse aid & detergent and a couple of washes de-gunked the tubes. That’s my guess anyway 😆

Not sure there iss a pressure switch on those Beko dishwashers, thought they had a metered water intake.
