ParticipantBeko Condensing Tumble Dryer tripping MCB when I push the power on/off button.
This fault has just developed. It is not intermittent. One day the machine was working and the next, when we tried to turn it on, it tripped the MCB in the consumer unit. It does this now ever time we try to turn it on.
The machine has been stood to “dry” for two weeks and I have since stripped it down fairly significantly. I have hoovered up all accessible lint from inside the carcass. I have take out the main PCB and filter/suppressor and have checked for visible signs of damage such as cracks, scorching etc. and can see nothing.
I plugged the machine in again and tried to turn it on and it immediately tripped the MCB. I then disconnected the wires to the main on/off switch and put the plug in, and it didn’t trip. I then reattached the on/off switch and disconnected the door closed sensor/switch and pressed the on/off button and it tripped again.
The issue I have is, I am certain the above doesn’t prove that the issue with it is the switch, as no power was getting “into” the machine.
It would appear that most of the other electrical gubbins are within the condensor pump unit itself, buried at the bottom of the machine. It looks as though I would have to remove fans, belts, and possibly the drum to access this and it is probably beyond sensible to do.
I have a multimeter and can just about use it / make sense of it.
Can anyone advice what the appropriate next step would be to try and determine the cause of the fault. If its a switch its about £15. If its the condensor pump unit, its £250, so a new machine…..
My thanks in advance.

ParticipantThank you for your reply Dave,
It is a Condensing heat pump dryer so, as I understand it, it doesn’t have a heating element such as you find in an older style dryer or oven / grill.
I’ll see if I can get to the heat pump unit and access anything there.
Kind regards,
