You have to realise that welded tubs are the chosen modern, high tech, method of construction. Shipped out quick, easy and above all, cheap! Engineered within that form of construction is efficiency, functionality and, believe it or not, sufficient in-built durability for reasoned domestic use giving a lifetime of approximately 5 years, give or chuck. (the latter being the more likely.)

There was a time, long long ago when things were built to last. There was a time you could, for example, strip down a drain pump, inlet valve, clutch and drive motor, replacing the individual parts. Those days you could also dismantle a tub and drum and do the same if you felt the need. Today’s plastic tub machines however make bearing replacements impractical or financially uneconomic, generally a combination of both, truth be told.

Times they are a-changing and and sooner rather than later we will all be reminiscing on the good old days when we used to change drum bearings, oh, happy days…!!! 😈

    I appreciate your comments Martin,

Sometimes I wonder if it is worth continuing the white goods repair as a lot of people tend to err on the side of buying a new machine. Frustrating!
