ParticipantHi,
Got a phone call from my wife this afternoon, saying the dryer’s broke! Had a look and it goes through all the motions with lots of warm air, but the drum doesn’t spin. Took off the lid and gave the belt a tug, it’s loose – assumed it had dropped off the pulley.
Popped the side off and it’s a rather weird arrangement where the drive from the motor goes to a larger pulley via a small belt, then the main v-belt attaches to the end of another pulley driven from there. Turns out the large belt that goes around the drum is fine, and it’s the short, thin one that transfers the drive from the motor to the jockey pulley that hasn’t snapped, but has come off. Closer inspection shows this belt has shredded along its length, and the pulley it is driving is wedged against the plastic chassis.
Pushed up on the motor assembly and it clicked into position, and the pulley can now rotate freely – have had a look online to see if I can get this small belt separately – however it seems to be part of a kit with the pulley and is about 33 quid!!! I’ve also read reports that belts snap due to the felt bearing becoming contaminated with adhesive, gripping onto the drum and causing the motor to kill the belt, is this a known fault with the DSC85W?
Anyone had experience of these? My plan is to nip to my local spares shop tomorrow to get a new felt bearing for the front and hopefully a new small belt (or worst case scenario, an entire jockey pulley kit). Need this fixed ASAP as the washing is starting to mount up!
Cheers

You will need the pulley as well.

Yeah, I’m starting to gather that – there is nothing physically wrong with the pulley but for some reason Beko only sell the belt with the pulley! Is there a need to change the pulley, or can I just change the belt? Surely there’s not much can go wrong with a metal wheel!!!
Ought to add the belt is labelled up as 491500303 4 PHE 285, does anyone know of a source for the belt on its own?

Typical – I don’t suppose there’s any instructions anywhere on how to change the pulley and/or belt? Been looking for a service manual for this dryer and not met with much success!
