ParticipantHi,
I have a Beko FN240 Fridge Freezer (fridge at the bottom, freezer on top). It has recently stopped working. The light in the fridge comes on when you open the door, but the fridge and freezer are not cold at all. Also it is making no noises what so ever.
I have tried turning the thermostat in the fridge up and down, I’ve tried unplugging it and leaving it for various lengths of time. Its been faulty for 4 days now, so any ice build up or anything would have melted.
I am thinking that the compressor has died and therefore I need a new fridge-freezer. But an informed opnion as opposed to my guess work would be nice.
Is there anything else I can try before I go and buy one?
Thanks in advance.

Only two things.
Either the thermostat or the compressor itself.
Can you hear compressor clicking if you listen carefully. If it does(probably every 1-2minutes not continious)) then most likley it is gone.
But why not have it checked. If it is the thermostat then it is not expensive to repair.Let us know

Thanks I’ll have a look when I get home from work and let you know. So if it’s completely quiet then it probably the termostat?
Will a faulty thermostat in the fridge stop the freezer from working?
Thanks again.

The purpose of the thermostat is to start and stop the compressor.
So if it is not working then nothing will cool.Make sure you try to listen to the clicking noise. That basically is compressor trying to start but it cannot. It is not unusual for the beko compressors to go after a time(they use cheap compressors).
If you are unsure best to have it checked for the sake of a call out.

Its the thermostat, I couldnt hear the compressor click (although my ears started to play tricks on me!) and then I tested the thermostat by jumping across the terminals (thanks to the wiring diagram on the back of the appliance) and it came to life!
So I’ll order one of them up now.
Thanks for all your help!
