I bought this fridge freezer in Oct 05. On sat everything in the freezer started to deftrost and the fridge stopped cooling. After a day the fridge was no longer cool. It was making a constant gurling noise – I think the noise it usually makes when intermittedly when defrosting normally – but a bit louder/more noticable. The fan in the freezer still works.

Any idea what might be the problem?

I have read that frost free can be difficult to diagnose and repair – so should I just buy a new Fridge Freezer? Seems a shame when I really like the design and it has been great up until now – and the fact that I have only had it for a short time :o(

    Thanks

yup. you got a system problem

    welcome to bekoworld!!!

at the very least it will need regassing, though experience suggests the compressor wont be pumping very well, and will need replacing

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but thats the trouble with cheap turkish compressors

Thanks – shame it is bad news 🙁

It certainly seems that if that is the case it is not worth paying for it to be repaired – as it looks like a new compressor alone will cost around £120 – not inc labour etc

It is a shame because I really love the desgin of the Beko F/F – and the size was spot on for my needs. It seems such a waste and terrible for the enviroment to have to buy a new fridge after such a short space of time.

I have contacted BEKO and they are considering sending out an engineer as a good will gesture – so fingers crossed I might get a free reapir – however – I will expect that to break down in another 18 months!

    Cheers

    JUles
