ParticipantOur ageing Beko DE 3431 FW has suddenly died on us, it takes in the water and then nothing, it wont circulate, no noises, no flashing lights, nothing. I have to then hold in the start/stop button to drain it.
any ideas ?

I really, really need some advice on this before I part with cash. 😕
I have taken the motor out and tested it with a multi meter.
With the meter set to 200 ohms I get the following results.
Between the red & white wires I get 77.2 ohms
Between the brown & white wire I get 45.2 ohms
Between the red brown wires I get 122.2 ohmsThe motor is free and can be turned by hand.
The resistance between the connections on the heater are 30.5 ohms
There is no resistance between the terminal of the capacitor on the motor.
Is the motor shot or is it something else?
Please help.

❓ ❓
That does not compute…
Between the terminal and what?

Between both terminals of what, the terminals on the capacitor or between the capacitor and motor terminals. ❓
Either way a capacitor is cheap enough to try in any event, just get one of the same rating and give it a whirl.

Participantboth terminals of the capacitor.

can I bypass the capacitor just to see if it is that ?

Definitely not, just buy a new one and stick it in, they are dirt cheap and it sounds as if yours is faulty.

opps. 😕
did try it and still no go, so have ordered a new motor for £70. Condenser not listed on any web site, and the lowest call out cost was £47.

It won’t run without the capacitor, thats what it is there for, to kick the motor into operation.
If you look on the side of the capacitor there will be a uf rating, they are bog standard parts as long as you get the correct value.
A new one should cost under a tenner.
Loads of them HERE
You would be mad to spend £70 on a motor before trying a capacitor, but then you did choose your own username. 😉

ow well to late now. Order placed with Whitegoods
:rolls:
is 5-6 years old so a new motor might do it good, not that there was anything wrong with it anyway, but I bet the brushes are a bit worn by now.
