cust been on hols come back and found freezer dead.
tries sockets and fuses to no avail.
tries it again 2 days later, and fiddles with ‘stat but no success.
3 days later im being called out.
plug it in, set to superfreeze and frostfree fan comes on, then compressor tinkles. takes about 5 minutes befor you hear some refrigerant start to gush around, and then compressor stops after about 12 mins and appliance is for all intents dead.
don’t think theres any issue with the frostfree part, and if there is, I cant see how you are meant to service it without disconnecting the refrigerant pipe…
So, before going back to it, any ideas? likely suspects I presume are rear top pcb, but no sign of moisture damage or burns, is there a power cap on there that commonly fails?
main start power cap, 2.5uf I think?
compressor relay?
compressor?
more than happy to try and work it out for myself but customer is a bit tetchy about how long things take, and I don’t really wanna be there hours in that case 🙂

If it’s the appliance with the p.c.b at the back, some of them have had poor connections at the plug feeding the compressor. As you look at the appliance from the rear, on the left top of compressor cavity where the loom plugs in, there has been an issue of poor neutral here in the plug. This can cause compressor stopping & starting & not running at all. One thing to watch out for is that if the supply has been off for a while it will run a test sequence on power up. In which fan, compressor, defrost heater will all be run for a short time before compressor runs continuously.

hi seamy that test seq seems to tie up, although the comp didnt run permanently, it cut out after 12 mins, give or take a min!
So in which case, surely that rules out the dodgy connection then? especially as i hadnt moved the machine before turning it on?
i note the odd relay connection that seems to be a bent over double strip of metal that has the other terminal transversing between it, although a bit of a wiggle to clean the contacts didnt seem to make any difference either. pcb and relay come to about £25 for the pair so may just throw a few bits and this and keep the fingers crossed… what do you think?
