Hi. I was given this Beko WM 1512 S Washing Machine by a friend of the family. It has Hot and Cold fill inlets at the back of the machine. I noticed a problem the other day whereby it always seems to fill with cold water, no matter which programme I select. With our old washing machine, as soon it was switched on, the combi boiler came on, so I could tell it was filling with hot water.
One time I noticed that it began to fill with hot water for a couple of seconds (as I heard the combi boiler come on) before stopping and then filling with cold water. I’ve checked that water is coming out of the hot water hose and the filter on the end of the water inlet is clear. The water filling from the detergent drawer is always cold though.
I was assuming that even if there was ever a problem on the hot water side, the machine would take in water from the Cold inlet and then heat it up to the required temperature or am I wrong in assuming this?
I was told, and can see, that this part, which is called a “mains suppressor” was replaced with one from a different make washing machine (so a different part), as the old one started smoking/burnt out, would this have any effect on the issue I’m experiencing though, I doubt it somehow but thought I’d mention it anyway to give a full history of the machine:

Does anyone have any idea on what the problem could be? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks 🙂

Have you tried a boil wash? Perhaps it only uses hot then. a lot of washers don’t use hot at all so if it works fine otherwise I would not worry about it

Thanks for the reply. I wasn’t aware that a lot of washing machines used cold water, which begs the question, what does washing at 40 degrees, 60 degrees, etc. mean then? Shouldn’t the water that fills through the detergent drawer be at this temperature? I’ve attached a picture of the washing options, which ones are equivalent to boil washes? Thanks.

The machines heats up to the temp the wash says. Nearly all machines are cold fill these days

Oh OK, yeah I realise they’re nearly all cold-fill these days. My trouble is that, even when I select the 40 degree options, the water in the detergent drawer is cold, definitely not 40 degrees. Even if it isn’t taking in hot water, for whatever reason, I would expect it to at least heat the cold water to the stated temperature. Could it be a case of a faulty thermostat or something, maybe it thinks that the temperature is too hot and hence lets the cold water flow in? Thanks.

The water coming into the dispenser will be cold, it heats in the drum

I guess that would only apply to cold-fill-only washing machines, whereas mine is hot and cold fill? So I would expect the water to be hot in the detergent drawer, as it should be drawing it in from the hot inlet, but isn’t doing so for some unknown reason! Any ideas? Thanks.

On a 40 wash it will probably be a mixed fill, cold water pressure is higher than hot so it may feel cold coming in, try a hot wash to see if comes in hot, run the nearest hot tap 1st to get it running
Could be a faulty inlet valve if not

    Hi
Most machines if they are hot and cold fill, only take hot water on the very hot washes. There is a heater in the drum to heat the water to the correct temperature, so you may not get hot water going into the machine.

    Washman is correct.

Most hot and cold fill machines only take hot on the first fill after pre-wash on a very hot program, usually the 90?C one.

Other than that, they will fill with cold water and heat in the drum as Andy said.

There are very, very few exceptions to this.

That Beko model only fills hot on progs 1,2 & 3, the rest are cold fill only, for obvious reasons as previously explained.

Re: Beko WM1512S Washing Machine not filling with hot water

Many thanks for all the replies and info. I’ll give this is a test using programmes 1-3 to confirm whether it fills with hot water. The machine is right next to the combi boiler, so only a very short run of pipe, therefore I can easily tell when the hot water inlet is being used by the machine.
I was comparing how this machine works to my previous old Hotpoint WM61 machine. As soon as I switched that on, on any programme – including the 40 degree one – the combi boiler would fire up. That’s why I noticed a difference with this machine, as the boiler doesn’t come on when I switch the machine on.
Also any idea how long the quick wash is meant to take, as it doesn’t seem so quick, it takes at least 2 hours, which makes me think that this feature isn’t actually working! Thanks.
