ParticipantHi
I have a beko WM6355W. I was beside the machine the other day when I heard a noise that sounded like the belt had broken.
I immediately turned off the machine (which still had power as the display was lit up). I then emptied the machine. This morning I drained the water from the machine using the pipe behind the front bottom panel. I also cleaned the filter, which spins fine when using your finger. Then I took off the rear panel expecting to find a broken belt.
The belt however was fine! So I plugged the machine back in, turned on the power, & no there was no power, no lights on front display.?
I checked the fuse. So I took off the top of the machine and tested for power coming in/out from my front on/off switch (using a voltage tester) – which is working?
Any ideas, the was power going to the machine after the weird noise, before I turned it off. The issue sounded mechanical, now it look like it’s electrical.
Is there any way to test the main board / PCB before trying to swap out a new one.
Thanks for any replies.Regards Conrad

Few thing to maybe check first, the mains inlet filter & on/off switch.
At incoming mains cable through back panel, inside the mains filter IS mounted on back panel.
If its blown or poor cable connection it could have gone with a crack and would mean poor or no supply to P.C.B., same if on/off switch is defective.
If there is mains supply on P.C.B but not doing anything then i’d go with changing P.C.B.
These are known for blowing the DC module which is small P.C.B mounted to side panel at top, normally you will have P.C.B lighting but no motor action though if it was blown.June 26, 2017 at 2:08 pm #448348Raff

Hi Seamy
Thanks for the reply…
I have checked the electrical supply using a mains tester. This showed a current all the way to the on/off switch. I also tested a current coming out of the on/off switch which also showed a current all the way into the main board, at the front (which turned on/off with the switch.
The DC module at the side does not show any current at all.Does this suggest my problem is with the main board at the front, or the DC module at the side?
The strange thing about this is that when heard the initial sound, which I thought was the belt breaking, the front panel was working!!
Thanks for any replies.

Not sure what you used to check “current”, you can’t check an electrical supply with phase tester if this is what you’ve used.
It will only check if a phase/live is present, you need a phase/live and neutral present for a circuit to work. The DC module would likely only have a supply voltage when programme is running (sending power to motor) it should’nt always have a supply.
With power off check main P.C.B and D.C module for blown components, this may show as burn marks on inner casing surrounding P.C.B.

Hi Seamy
Thanks for your help…
I used a non contact voltage detector (Fluke) to test the wiring from the plug up to the on/off switch, and then from the on/off switch to the main board at the front. This showed a current going into the main PCB.
I also have checked for any burn marks on the main PCB & the DC module, both look perfect. It is usually a case of replacing the main PCB and hope for the best?

You have still not confirmed you have a neutral as seamy has said. have you tried this in another socket by any chance?

Hi captaincaveman1
Yes I have tried it on another socket, no joy

As previously advised, non contact voltage detector does’nt measure “current”.
It will let you know if there is a live phase present, best to use a multimeter that can measure voltage to show if live & neutral are present to make circuit work.:plug:
Just a word of warning, some of these non-contact voltage detectors have been subject to a safety recall.
Dangerous as they show no power although circuit is live. BEWARE :lesson: :plug:June 29, 2017 at 12:54 pm #448354Raff

FIXED!!
Seamy had it right > “If there is mains supply on P.C.B but not doing anything then i’d go with changing P.C.B.”
So I ordered a 2nd hand PCB from eBay, spent 40 mins swapping them over & the jobs a good one…..
Thanks for the heads up on dodgy Fluke voltage testers (not my version)
Thanks for the feedback. Will keep this site in mind, hopefully will not need it too soon 😉
