Hiya, thanks for answering so quickly. The lights are coming on and the programme selected info is there but then nothing else is showing, the door isnt locking either and on pressing the start button to cancel nothing happens. could this be an electrical issue? could it be terminal as of the age of the washer at 11 years, we think it could be.

your machine is old enough to have carbon brushes in the motor. brushes that have failed and no longer touching the motor can cause this fault and this is the first thing to check. Most of the time if you tap the brushes firmly this can make them temporarily make contact again. then try the machine. if it starts change the brushes but dont use it till you do. if it doesnt you will have to remove the brushes to check them

also a failed door lock can cause this problem

if these both fail its starts getting expensive
