    Hi,

I’ve got a Beko WMA 1614W which had a burning smell and no longer turns. I changed the brushes about 6 months ago but I’ve just examined them again and they are quite worn down. I checked with my meter and they do still make connection.

If I put the machine on spin now, the drum just shudders as if it wants to move but can’t turn.

On the floor when I removed the washer was a lot of carbon dust, which I thought was strange.

Could it just require new brushes or is it a dead duck ? I can’t figure out what the burning smell was and there’s no sign of charring even on the pcb.

    Any ideas are very welcome.

    Cheers All 🙂

Sounds like the commutator of the motor ” the copper segments that the brushes make contact with ” may be at fault

Would have to agree with Muv here. Very common on the Beko for the motor to go faulty in this way, also tripping electrics. Had one myself this week. Changed the whole armature and worked a treat.

That’s exactly what happened…. the electric tripped out and had to be reset and it hasn’t been the same since.

Can just the armature be replaced or does it need a complete new motor ?

As far as I know the armature is not available separately as a spare, brushes & tacho are though. You may find a second hand motor buts its a gamble.
