ParticipantI have ordered a replacement pressure switch for Beko WMA520S washing machine.
It has 3 terminals. Having opened up the old one I can’t figure out how its ment to work. There is a plunger inside which moves up or down depending on the water pressure in the drum, but I could’nt see any contacts to do the switching.I get 24ohms across terminals 1&3 infinity across the other two combinations. When pressure is applied using a plastic tube, the readings dont alter.
Please explain how this pressure switch works

It’s a digital device and blowing up it is one way of damaging it.

Thanks for your reply.I won’t be blowing into the air inlet,of the replacement switch when it comes.I had Googled’How to test the water level Switch” and it said ……. now blow gently into the pressure connection and retest (electrically) it should click.
I can’t see how it switches. With the 3 terminals, i expected to see changeover contacts
Any further info on how it works to help my understanding, would be appreciated.Regards Jude

It’s digital, hence no switches, the main pcb measures the change in resistance. the old style analogue pressure switched clicked as the internal switches tripped over.

Curious as to why you think the pressure switch is at fault, generally a very reliable component?

having removed the control module from the front of the machine, and sent it off to Nottingham for testing,it came back marked “No fault found” On certain settings the water level came half way up the door, which i thought was overfill. When I removed the pressure switch. tube and the pressure vessel I found a lot of sludge in the pressure vessel. After cleaning I went against my better judgement, and turned the plastic screw on top of the pressure switch, which seemed to reduce the amount of water in the drum. This has cost me £13.40 for a replacement switch. Also the testing procedure that I refered to earlier,, suggested you should hear a click, which I didn’t , I have also replaced the brushes onthe motor which were completly worn down. Sooooo when I get the replacement switch I hope the machine will work again. —- Having Googled some more i think what is inside the pressure switch is a “ferrite core” and as you said, there would be no click when testing.
Thanks again for your replies.

Ah, more likely the sludge was the main/only fault initially. a regular maintenance wash and use of powder instead of liquids a good way to avoid a repeat build up. 😉
It would be a good idea to totally drain the machine via the pump filter before refitting new switch BTW.
