ParticipantHi,
My BEKO WMP652W washing machine has developed it’s first fault in the 3 1/2 years I’ve had it.
It had a wash load in it this morning when it started making a “whining and clicking” sound and also the smell of burning rubber. It tripped all the plug sockets in the house before I was able to turn it off.
I’ve taken the back panel off, drum spins free enough but the motor clicks when I rotate it by hand, is this normal?
I’ve a feeling it is the motor, and the smell does seem to be coming from that area of the washing machine.
Can’t see anything else obviously wrong inside. Many thanks in advance.

Update: After looking closer at the motor, I’ve noticed one of the brushes has melted the plastic housing slightly! (See pic)
Guess I’ll try replacing these first.December 13, 2015 at 1:50 pm #433691iadom

Don’t waste your time, the motor is shot ( and expensive). 🙁

Oh really? 🙁 Thanks for the info. I’ll probably just buy a new one in that case.

The melting is causing by sparking on the commutator. The clicking will be a raised segment that is hitting the brush as it turns.
As iadom says its a new motor job. I would bet that the DC module has blown aswell.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.
There was a raised segment on the motor.
Bought a new washing machine.
Shame really, I was hoping to get a few more years out of the old one! -
