I have the door from my friend’s Belling which has a glass frontage which at the top is firmly fixed. At the bottom though it is held on by a black rubber compound which at first sight looks like spigots into which the holes on the hinge are pressed into.

These spigots have now failed and I need to refix the door with fresh compound. Does anyone have any ideas what this rubbery stuff is and can I buy it from anywhere ?

Thanks for any help you can give.

    This what you want:

Ensure surfaces are absolutely clean and grease free. Clamp or weight parts together and allow 24 hours fopr full curing.

    Thanks Penguin

I’ve placed an order just now. When will it be despatched do you think ?

Also, I was thinking of putting the door into a bath of Caustic Soda to clean it up and degrease it. Is this ok ?

Sorry to bump this post, but would it be ok to clean the door in a bath of caustic soda before using the adhesive ?

    Thanks

Bit extreme…….. Scrape off the remains and a good dose of whitespirits should do the trick. Rubber gloves are a good idea. Ensure it’s absolutely spotless and dry before applying the new sealant.
