I purchased this graded but new yesterday from Curry’s Clearance Store, installed it and after the grill had been on [door open as per instructions] for about ten minutes there was a smell of burning wood or plastic and smoke started appearing out of the cooling air duct at the front. The sides of the base units inside the adjoining cupboards were already starting to get warm. The cooling fan was running. Glen Dimplex customer service tell me this is normal and the appliance just has to be left on at max. temp. for 20 minutes to let it burn off but it seems odd to me. Any Glen Dimplex service engineers or anybody else know if this is normal for these when they’re first switched on? Thanks.
Geoff
Should’nt be over smoky, there will be a smoke of all elements when first put on. You did take out the packaging that was on grill tray?
Went out to a lady with same issue of smell of plastic burning, found that she hadn’t removed the plastic envelope with instruction books etc & it cooked in the oven.
No, I’d taken the grill tray pack out. The smoke was from the cooking vents at the front, not inside the cavities. I went back yesterday and left it on max for 30mins or so; the smoke disappeared and the smell seemed to have reduced, so I told them to see how it goes over the next few days. My clothes smelt of it when I got outside though. I’ve never had this with a new oven before; as you say, a bit of smoke from the elements for a few minutes and that’s it.
