My partner has one of these ceramic ranges. From checking on ‘Connect’, it seems to have ‘Invensys’ energy regs for the hob. She has had ‘Belling’ out to it as it is impossible to simmer anything without it burning. This happens on every element!!. I was present when an engineer called but he was convinced they were cutting in and out correctly. I tried to dispute it with him but it fell on deaf ears. Does anyone know if there is an issue with these please?

I would suggest you follow the advice of the engineer and the instruction manual as to pan sizes, heat output and location of simmer zone. If that fails maybe change the quality of the pans as different makes, price etc conduct heat differently.

If that fails try a cookery course as sometimes if a product is burning switching off the heat is a technique used by chef’s before that happens afterall a hob produces heat, it is not designed to cook your food, that is down to the user.

And before you say you should be able to simmer food on the lowest setting without switching off or removing and it is down to the regulators, cooker to do what its designed for l’m afraid it is impossible and not what it is designed for. There is a hob made by Siemens that will simmer for days if required, but that monitors the heat very cleverly and switches power off or reduced as and when required very quickly, but retails high end and not been fitted to range cookers.

The energy regulators are used in products all over the world in numbers that’ll make your eyes water. There is no issue with them.

I have regularly found problems with these energy regulators failing in the way that you describe. Admittedly, all 4 failing at once does sound unusual. However, went to a New World cooker yesterday with these fitted and found 3 of them need replacement. Two for failing to cut-out and one for failing to cut-in until very near the top of the range. Also, I’ve found they seem to work ok until they warm up, then start playing up.
