ParticipantMy belling integrated machine was spinning when I heard a bang and the electricity went off, I removed the machine from under the worktop and the floor had black soot on it, on close inspection of the machine I found the connector block to the motor had the same soot on it and there was also soot on parts the copper coils, i’ guessing that the motor has developed a fault, would I be correct in this or could it be something else?
also am I as well getting a new washer as opposed to repair, if so, is it really a indesit machine IWME12 as I am finding it difficult to locate the part, thanks all

It could well need a new motor but the soot is normal. The motor brushes shed black dust as they wear away. Your machine is a re-badged Indesit and the motor is part No. C00074221. Check your guarantee documents as it may have a 5 year parts warranty. A motor may cost you £100 but it’s a lot cheaper than a new integrated washer dryer. On the other hand, your machine is not very highly regarded by most engineers on here for build quality, reliability etc. If you take the belt off and turn the motor shaft by hand and it makes a clicking sound at a certain spot each revolution you have a loose copper strip on the commutator. No spare armatures are available so that would certainly mean a new motor. If you do get someone in to look at the machine make sure you get it out for them or you will likely pay extra.

Cheers Phidom,
to give the machine it’s due, this is the 1st major problem we’ve had from it in just over 5 years

I Jumped to the wrong conclusion, it’s not the washing machine that’s tripping the RCD, it’s the flamin dishwasher (in my defence I didn’t know it was on, still feel dumb about it though) the dishwasher is a belling IDW 603 and as I say there was a bang and every time I switch it on the RCD in the main fuse box trips, I think it’s the main suppressor, a smal white circular plastic tube type thing that is quite black on the bottom with the bottom tube bit slightly blown out, would I be right on this? I’ll also do a seperate post in the dishwasher forum
