    Hi all,

My Integrated belling washer/dryer SGE12x will not start a wash, Lights on door locks but nothing, I believe that this is normally a sign the brushes have gone on the motor, is there anything else I should be looking for?

    cheers

I have now pulled the machine out took the back panel off, but before I started pulling everything apart I tried the machine again and it is working, one thing I did notice was when the machine first started there was some slight “sparking/flashing” from the motor, it was hard to say where the light was coming from but i’m guessing it was where the brushes are, this has since stopped, should I replace the brushes anyway?

You need to take the brushes out to check them before ordering new ones. They are fully worn worn when there is about 6mm of carbon protruding from the metal sleeve. If they are not fully worn and the motor is sparking excessively you will need a new motor.

    Cheers Phidom,

at the smallest it is around 3 mm and the largest around 5mm so I’ll order some new brushes and see how it goes,

    thanks again

forgot to ask, is it safe to use in the meantime IE: I wont do any damage using it while the brushes are worn?

no, dont use it until the brushes are changed
theyre worn, and any excessive sparking could cause motor failure.. possible pcb failure
im sure a couple of days wait will be better than replacing expensive components
