I have just been advised that my Bendix WD1054B washer dryer front loader has major damage, requiring replacement of a damaged spider, main bearing, endplate and spindle. I had called the repairman as the belt had come off and the machine had made extreme noise when on the fastest spin cycle.

Six weeks previously the machine had the motor replaced as it had ceased spinning. My first question is, is it possible that no indicators were present of the coming catostrophic damage which it now has.

Also, given that the machine has been used by a single person family for the last five years of it seven years, ie it hasn’t been heavily used, is it reasonable for this type of damage to occur to a front load machine of this age. (I had originally purchased one due to their said reliability and am disappointed that this machine is bearly 7 years)

Lastly should the machine be treated as a write off. My repairer advised that they would be able to repair – at a cost of course, but I am wondering if I could have an independant opinion of whether this would be a sound option and what further life I may receive from the machine.

    Thank you, Mary-Ann

It must have been very noisy especially during the spin cycle? Bearing in mind that when it was new the spin would have been very smooth and quiet.

7 years is a bl**dy good run for a Bendix let me tell you. It’s probably done over 2,500 washloads in that time I bet?

Yes, because having that repair done does not guarantee the other internal components are’nt going to pack up pretty soon! Otherwise you’ll be shelling out a lot of Dollars with a high risk of more problems in the coming weeks/months 🙁
