ParticipantThis very posh ‘country retreat’ set in several acres has a ‘bespoke’ fitted kitchen costing best part of 40 grand (and the rest) I reckon. So bl**dy bespoke was it that all the screws holding retaining panels, kickboarding and side panels preventing me from getting to fix this Neff dishwasher, were all hidden behind solid oak dowels 👿 👿 👿
Now because the dowels where a ‘feature’ of the kitchen design, my customer was none too pleased for me to drill them out in order to access the screws behind! Having explained clearly the need to undertake such action she got on the phone to the kitchen fitters.
I explained to the fitter over the phone about how stupid he was for fixing domestic appliances in this way and he took it rather badly I thought 🙄 We both agreed that the oak panels would last a thousand years but he didn’t realise Neff appliances (and this lady has the full set by the way) may just break down before then and would need fishing out to repair or replace in perhaps a shorter timescale?
Then we had the argy bargy about who then actually removes these panels and puts them back? I was up for getting my drill, hammer and chisel out but the customer and the fitter were less than chuffed at that solution. He decided to drop what he was doing and drive to this house and give me a hand. (he was 35 mins away so I had several bespoke cups of bespoke ground Colombian coffee whilst waiting 🙂 )
On arrival I could see we were going to get on like a house on fire with his god almighty attitude. So I stood back and watched him drill out all the relevant dowels (his drill slipped a bit here and there so thank god I didn’t touch it).
I sat back supping coffee watching him struggle with his self-made bespoke cock-up in getting the dishwasher out. (So far I haven’t even opened my toolbox on this job and 75 minutes have elapsed already – nice little earner I have got here for sure). He finally gets the machine out and I leap into action taking the side panel off, clear the crud from the sump hose and do a quick run test….magic….it works again 😆
Bespoke pillock then has to put the lot back himself and quite naturally I have to ‘test’ it after it’s put back…another 25 minutes later, so just got time for one more coffee. Hey presto! he’s got it back in and the panels are all back in place, I switch it on and declare, moments later, the job is a complete success. But ooh dear! he’s made a right mess of those dowel holes, still, not my problem 😆
I reckon my bill up, around 2 hours I’ve been there? but only 10 mins actually fixing the fault? nice coffee?….er let me see now? That comes to £85 please madam!
That’s what I like about this job you know….every day is different :rotl:

Bespoke engineers like me don’t make any bespoke VAT charges to our customers these days, Besides, I’m just a humble bespoke old git like you mate (How’s your luck anyway, long time no type?)

In such a situation we would do an about face in the kitchen and ask her to phone us when the fitter had made the appliance accessible.
Kudos to you for being brave enough to risk a drill!

Yet another ‘bespoke’ fitted kitchen way out in the sticks. 22 mile drive to find I can’t get the machine out. 😯

The fully fitted kitchen includes water pipes to and from the water softener unit in the adjacent cupboard. But run directly under the machine in front of the rear foot which is trapped under the pipes!!The front adjusting feet have been lovingly cemented in by the tiler as well…? 🙄

Martin 💡
Why not edit your first post so it’s suitable for public consumption and move the whole thread to the public forums, hopefully some kitchen fitters may read it 😉
Please delete this reply if required 🙂

Better still perhaps we all can compile a few ‘installation horror pics’ to be placed in the public forums under the heading ” Beware – Fitted Kitchen bodgers!”
I’ll start it off….. 😉
