Best thing to do is buy a VOIP phone, and then sign up with a VOIP provider like VOIPcheap. It means you can have a normal phone on your desk which receives phone calls but when calling it’s sent via the internet – free to landlines and mobiles are about 8p a minute.
Means the total cost of calls to me is about £50 per quarter, plus BT line rental, but this also includes forwarding the calls to my mobile, which the VOIPphone does – as well calls to customers, suppliers etc.
The wife also uses it to call family overseas which is free too.
