Re: Best make of van for the job (all rounder)

a weighed down kangoo was fine on snow/ice with std tyres, the swb master is crap in the snow/ice. it had too much torque which would cause the diff to lose grip in a smidge.

however, master is preferred choice rest of the year, comfy, nippy, lovely to drive with a bit of weight over the back axle and stupidly economical for such a large/heavy 2.2 td.

only downside with renault commercials are keyfobs and security. french cars seem to be a a doddle to break into… the fuel guage never reads quite right either, you can put a tenner in turn it off and it will read empty when you turn it back on even if you have done less than a mile. but about 30 seconds of running its then off. wack.

Any thoughts on a Nissan Primastar, I’ve seen an 05 rev’ on sale for 5.5k + vat, 56’000 miles. I’m replacing a transit. Anyone got one?

Did you buy the nissan Seamy ? I need to replace my transit and I’m torn between another tranny or a renault traffic/vauxhall vivaro/nissan primastar.

I have a Vauxhall Vivaro SWB 1.9 dti never let me down, just turned 96,000 miles.

Keep it serviced once a year as per manual at Vauxhall garage.

Good to know Silverbroom 😉 I’ve heard stories that they can suffer with gearbox problems, mind transits can have their faults also. The flywheels are reported to be the biggest concern on tranny’s I’m told.

Thre is one in my town and it’s currently £0.78p a litre but what I don’t get is if it’s that economical then why aren’t all the taxi firms running them.

It may be because most taxi firms these days run diesel motors. And apparently many LPG owners complain of filling nozzles not always working, not connecting to vehicle and very slow to fill. Coupled with the fact that most LPG pumps are out in the open away from the usual protective canopy you get in most filling stations. Finally, performance is compromised and the fuel cylinders compromise space in the hehicle.

i’ve had a renault trafic lwb for nearly 3 years. i chose it just based on price and the package. BUT…then found out it had a dc115 engine , marked EWR4-CNY and EUR4 -LGV and the road tax is £120.00.
low emmission engine apparently. full pack….c/l..alarm/ imobiliser..a/c…e/w…e/l mirrors, 6 speed box ( which has had all new bearings in it cos it went really rattley!!). also the gear selector dropped off… fixed by my gearbox genius by drilling and fixing a self tapper in!! saved £300 for a new selector arm. when full with diesel i get about 650-700 miles. it pulls really well, good on snow but like most vans poor on ice when loaded up..i had VW transporter before which had great reliability record except for a magic box which which ran everything which failed £800+ for the fix..including a complete service on the injectors. would have another renault trafic or vauxhall, nissan variant, and of course the new VW transporter if i could afford one.
