No van performs well in snow and most Ford Transits are abandoned along the road at the first sign of it anyway. Besides anyone would swear there choice of van is the best if truth be realised.
What you have to do is to figure out, for the most part at least, as to what you think suits your needs based on the various factors of things such as : budget – engine size – fuel type – side door access – rear door tailgate opening or swing doors – roof rack – shelving options – load platform access – tow hook for trailer – 2 seats or 3 – servicing intervals and costs – warranty – new or secondhand,?
Personally speaking I’d keep your 4X4 on the road this winter and ask myself the same question again next spring TBH, otherwise all you’ll get is…my van is lovely, buy one! :rolls:

Had a Fiat Scudo 2.0TDI for 4years 120,000 on the clock and no issues, totally crap in snow and ice though , 2 x side doors & 3 seats handy, not that comfy but ok, might get another but would prefer something a bit bigger next time ( comments expected !! ) :rotfl:

T5 but not as well built as the T4’s ! Obviously not as good as the 4motion on icy roads but grips very well i think, when its to slippery just turn of the TC and use ure skill 🙂
Ive got the lwb and it rides bumps like a dream you can drive it all day and it doesnt fatique you.

I have had vauxhall combo’s new shap and old & had a high top LWB 2800, that was when we had the shop and those 6″2 Bosch kgu’s to deliver. All the vauxhalls I had were fab. As we cover the Bolton abbey estate for the duke, the vivaro used to be a bit rubbish in the bridal paths and farm tracks. The 4motion is top!! It’s a wee bit on the thirty side @27 mpg! Lol. Mind it keeps my tax bill down!!

I have a Ford Transit Sport it is like a car to drive It has a heated windscreen, heated leather seat, electric windows and mirrors, electronic stability program, traction control, cruse control, low profile alloy wheels and tyres 6 disc radio cd player etc etc. Downside is the cost of tyres and low mileage out of tyres.
It still would not be as good as your van in the snow, but is still good compaired to your 4 x 4.
I have a 4 x 4 as back up for snow.
Ford now do a 4 X 4 Transit not as good a drive as the sport but still a nice van.

I last year was having problems finding a perfect size van for the varied things i do, basically i never found one !. In the end i got a SWB diesel transit for new appliance deliverys / repais & aerial jobs, and an lpg combo for smaller appliance repairs & visiting rural areas where the transit is too large & clumsy. Basically i cant fault the transit after owning it for a year, its reliable ,fairly cheap to run & insure.

merc vito,198000 on clock drives great, have winter tyres on which makes all the difference in this weather, the only downside is the body work, but will strive to buy an 07 plate upwards as they were galvanised, overall a great practicle van 8)

Just found this post. I am looking for a new van at the moment. In the last couple of weeks my van has been stationary in the drive due to the snow. Got so fed up sitting around so i bought an old land rover to get me out and about. Is there a van available with four wheel drive and some comforts as well. i.e. air con, power steering. Alarm, central locking, etc. Forgot to mention at a reasonable price.

T5’s rock! Good on fuel, easy on tyres brakes etc Have heard vivaro v. good too though. Had berlingo’s before and they where ok small van but easy to brake into, just undo the back door handle from outside and bingo! Plus you could use either set of keys to open either the van (not remotely) which was scary!

Ally, I love my VW t5 4motion. It has the 4 wheel drive ur after, air conditioning, heated seats, electric windows and mirrors, mirrors are heated too. It is also fitted with the winter pack, so has heated washer bottle, heated jets and headlight washers, so no more frozen jets or frozen washer bottle. Plus loads of other bits n bobs.
A bit on the expensive side to buy new, but the way I see it, you get the vat back and it’s a van that’s going to give loyal service for many years. Think I will keep mine until it’s dies!
Regards
Ian.
