ParticipantHi. I’m looking to buy a range cooker – specifically gas only, and wondered what make/brand would be best? I’m feeling the “Rangemaster” vibe mostly, would you go with that?

Many thanks, it seems they only do the 90cm with a fan assis electric second oven. I suppose I can live with that. Weird though!

I have a Mercury.
I’ve still to review it fully and they are now AGA-Rangemaster as AGA bought Mercury.
What I can tell you is that, if you want a duel fuel cooker and not all gas, it is an utterly outstanding cooker. Not cheap, I had to save to afford one when I got new kitchen but, worth it IMO.
In terms of build and performance it’s streets ahead of anything I’ve used in the past but, you pay for it.
In order, on my hitlist was…
Mercury
Falcon
RangemasterAnything else was a comprise on price against performance that I wasn’t prepared to live with, I’d rather wait and save for a cooker that actually did what I wanted.
Anything above a Mercury, well you’re into stupid money and whether it is/was worth it id open to debate.

Oh wow, I love the Mercury ones. Unfortunately I don’t have that kind of money or they’d be top of my list too.

Out of interest are Bosch ranges any cop? Everything I own from Bosch I love but I know these things don’t always translate.
Sorry, scrap that, they are all dual fuel 🙁

You can go way beyond Mercury if you have the money, a mercury rrp is only a deposit for a La Cornue (Aga-Rangemaster owned again) Price- up to 55k.
