KeymasterHi,
If a thin piece of metal, say, the smile shaped or more fittingly, the unhappy shaped, piece out of a bra, went through the holes in inner drum, so that it is now situated between the inner and outer drum (and letting you know it is there by the scraping noise and resistance felt when turning drum by hand), would it be possible to tackle the retrieval myself or does this situation require professional help. 😥
Any advice would be great thanks.

It can be done Andy, by removing the heating element and going fishing.
Power off first :plug:
If you are not confident, check Repairs@ or Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.
Regards,

Thanks Penguin,
I have plenty of confidence but no expertise. Sounds a simple solution though.
Thanks again for your help,
Andy. :clown:April 20, 2005 at 11:44 pm #132456clivejameson

3 out of 5 times you can with a torch, a small screwdriver poked through the drum holes, and a large dose of perseverance get it to pop up through one of the drum holes…as soon as the tip pokes through, grab with pliers and pull for glory!

Thanks for the help Clive,
Whilst moving the inner drum to try and look, I seemed to have dislodged the metal strip and the drum spins freely by hand!!
My problem now is, do I think great that’s sorted! (hoping the strip will just lie at the bottom of outer drum for ever and ever) 🙄 or do I (knowing that he is going to pounce up when I least suspect it) try and get it out 8O.
I shall open a can of Spitfire, just one, to help me decide and to boost my perseverence.
All the best everybody.

Hi,
On your appliance the Bra wire may now lodge into the heating element and remain there as it slowly rots away.
Leave be and run your luck.Kevin

I’ve never known one do any substantial damage (yet)…the only problem is in the long term, it will eventually rust and break up, then block the pump.
My advice would be to keep trying to get it out through the holes in the drum…if you shine a torch through you will see it and can manoevre it with a thin screwdriver (two screwdrivers would be better). Awkward I know, but soooo satisfying when it comes out 😉April 21, 2005 at 8:58 pm #132460admin
KeymasterRe: Between the drums
I’ve known a few to get punched throgh the outer drum, mostly they rot away and dont cause prob’s others may get into pump and jam it, but i’ve found if they are scraping the drum a good vigorous rattle back and forwards with inner drum on about 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} to 70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} the wire pokes back through one of the holes and can be removed fairly easily.

The old wire coathanger straightened with a hook on one end works wonders when going fishing.
Talking about fishing, who me, 8 hrs and counting.

You may not have any ‘real’ women round your way then, went to one last week that had ripped the heater out of a Hotpoint WMA, mind you it was something that Alexa would be more familiar with., it was more boomerang than bra wire, 😀

They can cut a Plastic outer bowl in half tho.
Typical Comments from housewife
“It can’t be mine”
“Must be my daughters”
“I don’t wear a bra”
“I don’t wear underwires”
“I wondered where that went to”
And of course I tend to hold them up the right way as I approach the housewife as a gauge of whether they are hers or not, just to embarrass them morehttp://applianceguru.com/forum2/5.html
and “my bra wires are getting stuck in the dishwasher spray arm”
