ParticipantAttended a job today that nearly made my chin bounce off the floor.
Old lady had been away and come home to a broken washing machine(WMA Type.) Adult sons had been at home. When I pulled it out I discovered this from the house of horrors. 😯

Its a ‘safety’ plug with the top removed?! Still live and ready to Zap.She had no idea how that came to be, nor was there any sign of the plug top cover.
Ever fished around inside a cupboard looking for a plug to remove by feel alone..Take note- Phantom safety plug top cover removal gremlins are out there! 😈November 26, 2007 at 8:54 pm #235425funkyboogy

at least it was still earthed.. but you will need to advise your customer not to remove the 2 little screws/cable grip …as some-one could pull the cable right out of that plug..
and that just plain dangerous…

New MK plug fitted.
Just took photo as evidence of shockingly bad installation. On a par with the one I went to with a section of 6″ nail where the fuse should be 😯

hi guys,
seen this before (bad news) also always remember to unplug. i was once working in this guys garage looking at a tumble dryer.
i switched it off at the wall thinking everything would be fine put my hand into the machine and BANG!!!!! blew me across the garage not being able to breath.
turned out the switch was nuetral switching meaning the machine was live right up to the plug.
suvived it as you can tell (I WAS NEW TO THIS GAME THEN) just watch out i learnt a valueable lesson that day.
i always use a voltage stick now no chanceing it.

that is nothing this really had to be seen to be believed on tuesday i went to an elderly couple with an electric cooker which had spiral elements, the lady said that “the front left element that she always used had fallen apart” when i got there i found that the outer part had totally gone and all the insulation too but the main inner element wire was still intact and she “had been using it this way for a few weeks” to say that i was stunned would be an understatement i have never evert seen anything like this and didnt even get a picture as i was so stunned neither she or nor her husband seemed to get how serious this was even when i told them it was live and they must get RCD protection given them a contact number to call and will check on them next week. still cant take this in.
