ParticipantYou’ve splashed out on a brand new kitchen, new cupboards and worktops, new build-in appliances and gadgets – lovely!
But, spare a thought that sometimes appliances do break down and likely as not an engineer will need to pull them out in order to repair them. Very often, and unknown to the proud owners, the appliance has been ‘bodged to fit’ by an unscrupulous kitchen fitter, and the simple task of disconnecting them and pulling them out has become a major undertaking. Often it is simply impossible to get them out though due to lack of forethought on the part of the original installer. 🙁
For example , the picture below is a close-up of a ‘built-in’ dishwasher. Unfortunately someone has fitted water pipes underneath the machine and it’s rear feet are trapped under the pipework. 😯
…also the ‘ceramic floor tiler’ has thoughfully cemented in the front adjusting feet to ensure it won’t ever budge!

To get this machine out will need the concrete floor breaking up around the feet, the sink unit and worktop removing, the wall tiles resetting etc etc…Nightmare job!So do check with the kitchen fitters before work commences that they must allow sufficient access to these appliances should they fail or need replacing in the future. A simple list of “do not’s” to look out for are:-
Do not place water pipes under the machine. Do not block access to stop-cocks, power sockets or drain couplings. Do not butt carpet, floor coverings or tiles in front of an appliance preventing removal. Do not stand appliances on MDF (chipboard type) fibreboard or loose wooden wedges or tiles.
All pretty common sense stuff but all of the above are applied by many bodgers and only come to light long after they have been paid and dissappeared. So do please….BEWARE THE BODGER !!!
More horror pictures to follow……. 🙄
