Beyond repair?

The bearings on our expensive LG Intellowasher have gone and we’ve been told that it’s a £200 job and that other things will probably soon go wrong. So it’s a write off – which seems shocking as it’s only 4 years old, although yes, it has been used fairly heavily.

My wife is now lining up another LG – at £700. How can I put her off? I’ve said it has it be a Which? best buy and several LGs including this one are best buys, but I’m not convinced. I’m sure there are cheaper machines that are just as good.

It has to be a high spin, large capacity model.

    Any suggestions?

That’s a good start, more here:

Trouble with capacity is…….. For years, we had 4.5kg load machines, and people might manage to stuff in 5kgs. Then we had 5kg machines and people start loading 6kg. Then 6kg let people force in 8kgs. It’s a cube thing, you see……….. Your good lady may well be able to get 12 kgs into your 8kg load machine.

But – when the laundry is soaked, the weight increases (typically) by a factor of 6. The 4.5kg load becomes 27kg, 5kg load is 30kg, so only 3kg overweight. The 8kg load should weigh 48kg, but overloading at 12 kg would produce a 72kg load – an overload of 24kg! A bit tough on the mechanicals.

HTH, bit of food for thought,

There is no Korean ( LG, Samsung) on the latest Which top ten best buy list.
