    Hi Fasetester

It was a question so that we could know your knowledge level so that we could help out easier when required.

I dont profess to be a know it all, never will do as I still learn every day as life is a learning curve.

    Hi fasetester,

I don’t think anyone was having a go at you as such. Reading through the thread though I don’t understand why you’d need such a detailed description of how to repair what, seems, a simple leak problem.

If you need clips, buy a selection. That’s what we have to do, especially for the Whirlpool machines as you need the thin ones or, you chance it with decent cable ties.

I can understand both sides of this as you obviously are unfamiliar with the machine and, I suspect, not confident in a good fix. The other side is that, when my engineers have asked questions to this level of detail you ask yourself, “do you want me to go and do the damn job for you as well?”.

I was taught that the only way to learn is the hard way with appliances and, often with new ones you encounter, that means you sit with it for a good while and work out the answer as, invariably, there is one.

But the guys have told you where to look as well as suggesting what part you need so I have to ask, other than one going and doing the job, what else can they offer? The only thing I can suggest you do is get the bits you know are busted then go work out how best to fit them and, that may well involve working it out as it looks as if there’s no shortcuts on this one.

And, asking the same question over and over will only irritate people, not encourage them to help you.

Before you ask, no I’ve no experience with this dishwasher, but it’s just a dishwasher like any other so it shouldn’t be too taxing to fix.

    K. ken i was asking what type of hose clip do the other engineers use as the crimp type when squeezed out of shape would not make for a good repair. other engineers have asked similar type of questions. is it such a big deal to ask would a ordinary hose clip do. and you say chance it with decent cable ties is that hose not under pressure.

What is the point of this forum when you say sit and work it out. would it not be best to have a section on questions not to ask or dont bother with a forum. i thought the ukwhitegoods was all about helping each other out. to make the job as safe and as quick as possible so the message i am getting is be very careful what help you ask for only certain questions are allowed.

I was always told to ask questions. how do you learn if you dont ask questions. so the bottom line is this forum is not about sharing information in my opinion this forum is sending out a very mixed message.

I will watch and see if other engineers get the same slating for asking non tec questions 🙁 fasetester

You seem to be taking umbrage at this fasetester.

The fact is that I’d have a box of clips and try until I got one that fitted, I wouldn’t need to ask unless it was something desperately strange that I’d never seen before. I don’t think that this is the case here and, to be perfectly honest, some of the stuff you’re asking I’d expect from a member of the public and not a appliance engineer.

Nobody is slating you for asking questions, but step by step instructions with every little detail and nuance covered is a bit farther than anyone can be reasonably expected to go in offering help to an engineer. Usually a nudge in the right direction is enough.

So I have to ask you, just how much detail do you expect to get? A full workshop manual type explanation every time you ask a question?

As, to be perfectly blunt, most manuals (when you can get them) don’t even go down to the degree of Detail you want here, like what clips happen to be fitted to whatever machine. Some stuff you just have to suss out on your own and that’ll be that.

You carry on fase and ask what questions you like mate and most of us will try our best to answer you, as we always do pal, no worries!:D

Our trade is fraught with difficulties every way you turn and those within it have encountered many every working day. Tricks of the trade and help abounds this website with many like me willing and able to help those that seek it.

Those amongst us that take a critical and somewhat sarcastic approach toward those like yourself that simply asks a question, are best advised not to intervene but to leave it to those more tolerant and cooperative (IMHO)

It was the original concept that this website campaigned toward. To help all that seek help, to share all that can be shared and improve all aspects of the whitegoods trade. To give this freely and without prejudice or discrimination. And I for one sincerely hope those ideals are withheld and retained and that this web sites Moderators take a much more open-minded view in order this be maintained and at all levels?

Your teachers were correct fase is advising you to ask questions…go ahead….ask away!:D
